Latin Beginners 1

(Age 7-11) Meets weekly for 4 weeks, 40 minute classes This course will inspire students with a love of the Latin language and Roman culture, by introducing them to the “bigger picture” of the fascinating Roman world and an introduction to the Latin language. It will benefit students by giving them: - a firm foundation in Latin, which will also improve their understanding and use of English and learning of other languages; - an introduction to the Roman world, which will aid their understanding of history and critical thinking skills; - immersion into Roman culture, through the stories the Romans themselves grew up with, the way they lived, and the art and architecture they were surrounded with. We will approach language learning through a range of strategies, which will help to build understanding and memory: studying the Latin roots of English words; learning Latin vocabulary and grammatical structures, and translating the language; looking at the language in the context of its original setting – in literature, inscriptions, and daily use.
