TMU's Privacy Notice

We take your data security very seriously. We are here to teach great classes to great thinkers; we only keep the data we need for as long as we need it to make our classes run effectively, and we store it and process it carefully and securely. 

 

What data we collect

When you sign your child up for a course, you provide us with certain information: your name, your child’s name and age, your email address, details of what you bought and, optionally, details about your child's learning needs. We also collect data, your e-mail, when you subscribe to our mailing list, or subscribe to comment on our blog. When you take one of our classes we will obtain a recording of the class. We use third parties to collect and process your payment information.

 

Our website uses cookies. ​Our website also contains links that allow you to share our content with social media platforms such as Instagram, Google+, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy policies. Please check these policies before you submit any personal information to these websites.

 

 How and why we use your data

We will use the information we collect to provide you with the class(es) you signed up for and to assist students’ learning. We will use your data to process your payments and, with your consent, to send you marketing information to promote our classes. We will also keep records as required by law.  We will conduct data analysis only to understand more about the take-up of the classes we provide, in order to improve our service to our customers. Each class will be recorded for safeguarding purposes. Recordings will be kept securely for 1 week and then deleted. These recordings will not be shared with anyone unless there is a complaint or a security concern in which case the relevant authorities and TMU’s Directors will review the relevant videos.

 

We strongly believe in protecting the privacy of children. Outside of class interaction, TMU expects all contact to take place between TMU or teachers and the children's legal guardians. Parents of children over 13 should obtain consent from their children before sharing their details with us. Please contact us if you find that your child under 13 has signed up to our mailing list or blog without your consent, so we can delete their details.

How we share your data

​When you sign up for a class, the class teacher will receive a secure e-mail with your name, your child’s name, age, educational needs, and your email address. The teacher will use this information for the purposes of teaching the class and contacting you with any relevant information or material for the running of the class. TMU teachers are requested to keep no data about students in their personal computers. All TMU student data is uploaded and kept privately and securely by TMU. 

 

We will hold your data securely, and never share it with anyone else, other than for legal or regulatory requirements. 

 

We will contact you by email to provide you with the information you will need for the forthcoming class(es), and sometimes with information from a class that has taken place, or homework, if relevant; or occasionally to ask for feedback on the service you have received.

We will also from time to time email you about upcoming classes we think you may find interesting. You can opt out of receiving emails about upcoming classes and requests for customer feedback by unsubscribing using the contact details at the bottom of this page.

 

Lawful Basis

We collect and process your data with your consent and because it is necessary for us to offer you the services you have purchased, and to improve or promote these services. We collect and process a child’s SENs because it is in our legitimate interest to provide you with advise and guidance as you select courses for your child and as the child works through them. We will only collect this data if you volunteer it to us and we will not share it with any third party. 

 

Data Retention

We retain personal information we have collected for as long as necessary to provide the services you have purchased and for our legitimate business needs to respond to any questions or complaints and to maintain our business records as required by law. When we no longer have a legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will delete, or anonymise it.

Third Parties

We work with third-party companies who support our website for payment processing, and marketing. We also use third-party companies to host our webinars (Zoom).  To pay for our classes, and to receive refunds, you use Paypal. PayPal are the data controller of payment information you provide to them. You can see their privacy policy here.They do not share your billing information with us. 

 

We may transfer personal data that we collect from you to our third-party data processors in countries that are outside the European Economic Area (EEA) such as the USA. Your data will be stored securely and under the same protection as data processed within the EEA.We do not share your information with third parties for their own purposes.

 

Your Rights over your Data

​If you would like to access the data we hold on you, rectify it, object to processing of your personal information, request its deletion from our database, or request portability of your personal information, please contact us and we will carry out your request within 4 weeks. You have the right to complain to a data protection authority about our collection and use of your personal information. For more information, please contact your local data protection authority.

We may update or amend this privacy policy from time to time, to comply with law or to meet our changing business requirements. When we update our privacy notice, we will take appropriate measures to inform you, consistent with the significance of the changes we make. Any updates or amendments will be posted on the Website. By continuing to access the Website, or using the online classes and content, your access and use will be subject to these updates and amendments.
