Course Description

This is a critical introduction to basic economic theory. We will touch on some of the topics covered in an IGCSE Economics syllabus, with a focus on understanding philosophical assumptions, economic logic, and how the various pieces work together. Our conversation will engage with economics, history, politics, anthropology and more. The course will cover (across part 1 and 2 ) 1. The basic economic problem - human nature and unlimited wants 2. Demand and supply and the invisible hand of the market 3. The private firm: cost, revenues, and profits. 4. The role of government in an economy. 5. Economic indicators. 6. Trade - absolute and comparative advantage 7. Free markets versus restrictions 8. Competing economic theories During the course we will explore case studies, play economic games, and have fun. No prior knowledge is expected, all curious, bright young Thinkers welcomed.

Cancellation Policy

All our classes require a minimum number of Thinkers to run. As soon as enough Thinkers sign up you will receive an e-mail from the Scholar running your class with a link to your virtual classroom. If we cannot gather enough thinkers to run a class we will, sadly, have to cancel and/or reschedule. If this is the case, we will e-mail 24 hours before your class is scheduled to start to let you know. To help ensure that your class does take place, please invite others to join you. We find that word of mouth is the best way to let new families know about Thinkers Meet Up. Thank you!
