This is a critical introduction to basic economic theory. We will touch on some of the topics covered in an IGCSE Economics syllabus, with a focus on understanding philosophical assumptions, economic logic, and how the various pieces work together. Our conversation will engage with economics, history, politics, anthropology and more. The course will cover: 1. The basic economic problem - human nature and unlimited wants 2. Demand and supply and the invisible hand of the market 3. The private firm: cost, revenues, and profits. 4. The role of government in an economy. 5. Economic indicators. 6. Trade - absolute and comparative advantage 7. Competing economic theories * Please note - this syllabus will be adapted to address the needs of each specific group of Thinkers. Thus, we will take longer in a topic if more in depth, better explanations are needed, or if Thinkers want to explore a particular idea further. ** NB There will be NO class on January 23rd or February 13th
We will do our utmost to ensure every booked class takes place. However, we strongly believe in the value of conversation between thinkers. Thus, we will not run a class with less than the minimum number of students. If we do not have a full group 24 hours before the class is set to start we will, sadly, cancel the session, refund all participants, and seek to run the class at a different time. Our full booking and cancellation policy can be found in our Terms and Services.
