Interactive Fiction Writing Club

Course Description
Designed as a follow on to our Coding Games with a Story course, the writing club is here for people who want to take the skill of knowing how to create interactive fiction (as taught in that course, or learned elsewhere) and actually turn having that skill into a full game of their own. Each week will prioritise helping each participant keep momentum, working together to break writer's blocks, and getting expert help on any technical issues (or ideas!) that have come up since the week before. With any time we have left, Michael will share from his years of experience of running interactive games and building large software projects to help the games avoid common pitfalls and be as fun to both write and play as possible. To take part in the writing club, you'll need: - a solid knowledge of at least one tool for building interactive fiction (like VisualInk, the website used in Coding Games with a Story). - a device which lets you work on that tool and take part in a Zoom call at the same time - the desire to build a game for yourself - you'll get much more out of the club if you're building between sessions Already having an idea for a story is completely optional! If you'd like to write, but don't have a topic yet, that's one of the things the club can help you with in the first session. This course will run in five week blocks for as long as we have sufficient thinkers interested in taking part, with members coming and going over time.
Cancellation Policy
We will do our utmost to ensure every booked class takes place. However, we strongly believe in the value of conversation between thinkers. Thus, we will not run a class with less than the minimum number of students. If we do not have a full group 24 hours before the class is set to start we will, sadly, cancel the session, refund all participants, and seek to run the class at a different time. Our full booking and cancellation policy can be found in our Terms and Services.
