Course Description

*** Please note IMPORTANT CHANGE TO PAYMENT INFORMATION at the bottom of this page - please book directly via tutor *** The reign of Augustus saw enormous changes in Rome. This long period of peace and patronage led to a golden age in Rome’s literature, art, architecture and more. On the other hand, the Romans had exchanged their unruly Republic for rule by an increasingly authoritarian Emperor. We’ll be exploring these changes, from the most famous authors Rome ever generated to the gleaming cities of marble that sprang up all around the Empire. We’ll also explore the slick imperial propaganda of the period, including the imperial image, connotations of a golden age, and the positioning of Augustus’s increasing power. We’ll be assessing how “golden” you think the period really was, and how much you think it was coloured by the propaganda, and why the image has remained so influential over the millennia. *** IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION *** The cost for the course is £66. Instead of booking through the TMU website, please pay the course tutor directly: 1. Via BACS transfer - please email thinkers.jo@protonmail.com to receive an invoice 2. Cancellation Policy

All our classes require a minimum number of Thinkers to run. As soon as enough Thinkers sign up you will receive an e-mail from the Scholar running your class with a link to your virtual classroom. If we cannot gather enough thinkers to run a class we will, sadly, have to cancel and/or reschedule. If this is the case, we will e-mail 24 hours before your class is scheduled to start to let you know. To help ensure that your class does take place, please invite others to join you. We find that word of mouth is the best way to let new families know about Thinkers Meet Up. Thank you!
