Course Description
*** Please note IMPORTANT CHANGE TO PAYMENT INFORMATION at the bottom of this page - please book directly via tutor *** Things are about to get even worse in Rome, following the death of the unpopular Emperor Tiberius. Enter Gaius, better known as Caligula, to bring some dreadful drama and outlandish behaviour (we’ll be assessing the sources to consider how many of the stories are likely to be actually true!). Following Caligula’s assassination we’ll see how Claudius came to power, and how the stories told about him depicted him (can he really have been a puppet ruler, controlled by freedmen and the imperial women? Did he arrive in Britain on elephant-back? And was he really fed a poison-laden mushroom by a scheming wife?). It’s a period of drama and intrigue, with some excellent contemporary sources to dissect and get closer to the facts. This course supports the A-Level Ancient History period study on Rome (the Julio-Claudian Emperors). *** IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION *** The cost for the course is £66. Cancellation Policy
All our classes require a minimum number of Thinkers to run. As soon as enough Thinkers sign up you will receive an e-mail from the Scholar running your class with a link to your virtual classroom. If we cannot gather enough thinkers to run a class we will, sadly, have to cancel and/or reschedule. If this is the case, we will e-mail 24 hours before your class is scheduled to start to let you know. To help ensure that your class does take place, please invite others to join you. We find that word of mouth is the best way to let new families know about Thinkers Meet Up. Thank you!
