Service Description

In this TMU inter-disciplinary seminar we invite Thinkers to explore a topic under the guidance of multiple Scholars, so they can explore the topic from multiple perspectives while undertaking their own research. Each Thinkers will be given a project creation guide at the beginning of the seminar. Each week of this seminar will look at 'War and Peace' from a different perspective, led by a different TMU Scholar. Topics might include (topics and order TBC): - The Maths of War: look at expenditures on weapons, global patterns and comparisons. - The Science of War and Peace: how chemistry and helps heal and hurt. - Literature: poems of war; epics of the human struggle for peace. - Philosophy: What leads human to violence? - Politics: what political bodies work for peace and how? - History: Looking at war in historical narratives. - Future: Could there be war in outer space. - Philosophy/Ethics: How can we prevent conflict? Throughout the 10 weeks, Thinkers will be encouraged to create a portfolio or project of learning. The shape of this will be up to the Thinker, although TMU will provide some suggestions. Optional: At the end of the term, Thinkers can submit their portfolio for moderation/feedback. If interested, Thinkers can seek to gain a Thinkers Meet Up Certificate. The goal of these certificate is to give Thinkers feedback and support with the understanding that each Thinker is unique and will follow a unique research path. Project submission and discussion will be run as a separate course (see War and Peace Project Work).

Cancellation Policy

We will do our utmost to ensure every booked class takes place. However, we strongly believe in the value of conversation between thinkers. Thus, we will not run a class with less than the minimum number of students. If we do not have a full group 24 hours before the class is set to start we will, sadly, cancel the session, refund all participants, and seek to run the class at a different time. Our full booking and cancellation policy can be found in our Terms and Services.
