TMU take on the InkJAM
For Thinkers 11-16
Available spots
Course Description
One week. One visual novel. Will your team defeat... the InkJAM? Running most years, InkJAM challenges teams or individuals to build a story based game using the Ink narrative scripting language based on a secret theme revealed at the beginning of the JAM. And it just so happens that several of our thinkers know how to use Ink already - it's the language we use in our Coding Games with a Story course! Sign up for this course and you'll get help finding and organising a team (and a private forum to talk together), an hour of mentoring from Ink expert and software development professional Michael each weekday during the week of the JAM, and then TMU will handle submitting the final game to the JAM to enter the competition. There'll be plenty for a whole team to work on, regardless of experience at game development: writing, coding, art, even sound effects and music! But be warned! To finish the challenge, you'll need to put in quite a lot of time during the week beyond the one hour mentoring sessions. Please note: to allow for TMU to guarantee the privacy and security of the thinker's personal information, and allow thinkers to enter even if they live in regions where they are not legally allowed use the service hosting the JAM because of their age, the InkJAM organizers have agreed all TMU entries will be entered under a single account under the TMU name even if we field multiple teams. Bonus extra: if at least three adults want to try their hand at narrative game creation, we'll also field an over 18s team with the same mentoring structure and price. Drop an email or fill in the query form to let us know you're interested. The InkJAM theme will be announced on August 15th, and mentoring sessions will be at 16:00 UK time from the 17th-21st. The final game will be packaged and submitted by Michael on the 23rd.
Cancellation Policy
All our classes require a minimum number of Thinkers to run. As soon as enough Thinkers sign up you will receive an e-mail from the Scholar running your class with a link to your virtual classroom. If we cannot gather enough thinkers to run a class we will, sadly, have to cancel and/or reschedule. If this is the case, we will e-mail 24 hours before your class is scheduled to start to let you know. To help ensure that your class does take place, please invite others to join you. We find that word of mouth is the best way to let new families know about Thinkers Meet Up. Thank you!
