*** Please see bottom of the page for IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION - please book directly via tutor *** We will be exploring Roman Britain through literature and archaeology, from the first Roman invasion to later conquest and expansion. Much new evidence has come to light that helps us question what we thought we knew, and look at the province in different ways. - We will use historical sources such as Caesar, Tacitus, Suetonius, Josephus, Strabo and Cassius Dio to explore first-hand or near-contemporary accounts, to understand the Roman conquest and control of the province. - Archaeological evidence will help us understand military and civilian life better, from forts, veteran colonies, coins, letters, tombstones, inscriptions, walls, roads, towns, villas, and all the traces they leave behind. - We will also look at the rebellions against Roman rule (Boudicca, Venutius, Caratacus, Calgacus) and how the Romans perceived them, as well as the British rulers who welcomed Roman government. *** IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION *** The cost for the course is £66.
