*** Please see bottom of the page for IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION *** This course will give students a wonderful insight into Roman life regarding both public and everyday life, through the letters written by ancient Romans. We will explore the literary form of letters written for publication, and also read personal letters sent more than two thousand years ago. We will explore a treasure trove of ancient letters, including: - Pliny's eye-witness description of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius - Friendly banter and philosophical advice from Horace - Stoic philosophy in Seneca's letters to Lucilius - Letters between the emperor and stoic Marcus Aurelius and his tutor Fronto - Cicero's personal correspondence that reveal much of Roman life and political intrigue - Private letters found in different Roman sites that give us insights into daily life and the real joys and concerns of Romans around the Empire. *** IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION *** The cost for the course is £66. Cancellation Policy

We will do our utmost to ensure every booked class takes place. However, we strongly believe in the value of conversation between thinkers. Thus, we will not run a class with less than the minimum number of students. If we do not have a full group 24 hours before the class is set to start we will, sadly, cancel the session, refund all participants, and seek to run the class at a different time.
