Course Description

Some plants eat insects. Others survive scorching deserts without a drop of rain. Some cling to frozen mountainsides, while others soar towards the canopy of the world's most complex ecosystems. This four-week course dives into the remarkable ways plants have evolved to thrive in the most challenging environments on Earth. Each week puts a different plant world under the microscope - combining cutting-edge science with the kind of discoveries that make you look at the natural world differently. What students will explore: 🪲 Week 1 – Carnivorous Plants - How do plants turn the tables and become the predator? Thinkers uncover the ingenious traps, lures, and digestive tricks that make these plants unlike any other. 🌵 Week 2 – Desert Plants - Extreme heat, almost no water, and scorching sun. Thinkers discover how desert plants survive in biomes that are not for the weak!. 🏔️ Week 3 – Alpine Plants - Freezing temperatures, fierce winds, and thin air. Thinkers explore the extraordinary adaptations that allow plants to live where almost nothing else can. 🌿 Week 4 – Rainforest Plants - The most biodiverse places on the planet. Students investigate how rainforest plants compete, cooperate, and adapt in a world of constant competition for light and space. Each week combines engaging video lectures, guided discussions, and fun quizzes to consolidate learning. This course will help Thinkers develop scientific reasoning, problem-solving, critical thinking, and the vocabulary to talk about science with confidence - skills that stretch well beyond the biology classroom.

Cancellation Policy

All our classes require a minimum number of Thinkers to run. As soon as enough Thinkers sign up you will receive an e-mail from the Scholar running your class with a link to your virtual classroom. If we cannot gather enough thinkers to run a class we will, sadly, have to cancel and/or reschedule. If this is the case, we will e-mail 24 hours before your class is scheduled to start to let you know. To help ensure that your class does take place, please invite others to join you. We find that word of mouth is the best way to let new families know about Thinkers Meet Up. Thank you!
