Service Description

TMU’s Book Club is different from other book clubs. Our focus is to enthuse Thinkers to read widely and enjoy reading. Our goal is to engage with the big ideas that books play with, helping thinkers develop their analytical, critical, and communication skills as we discuss these ideas. Each class will follow a structure to ensure we discuss main topics, characters, plots, and writing style while keeping our focus on ideas. Each class will, however, be unique as we delve into the ideas Thinkers found most interesting, discuss their relevance, link them to recent and historical examples, compare with other literature, and link to philosophy, sociology, politics, economics and more. Our goal is to help Thinkers grow into confident, thoughtful, creative conversation-makers, who feel comfortable in any situation, who are keen and active listeners, compassionate and empathic friends, and sharp analysts. Our books seek to expose young Thinkers to writers of different times and backgrounds, to provide a global, nuanced perspective. Each book is discussed over two weeks. In between each book club there are two weeks off to allow Thinkers to read the next book. You can sign up for each book club independently, or book for all of them at a discount. We are taking requests for our book clubs – so feel free to contact us with your vote! Please note ideas listed below are those we will be departing from, but our conversation can take us to many other areas. Heart of darkness – We will be discussing the psychological impact of colonisation, history and memory, empires and justice.

Cancellation Policy

We will do our utmost to ensure every booked class takes place. However, we strongly believe in the value of conversation between thinkers. Thus, we will not run a class with less than the minimum number of students. If we do not have a full group 24 hours before the class is set to start we will, sadly, cancel the session, refund all participants, and seek to run the class at a different time. Our full booking and cancellation policy can be found in our Terms and Services.
