Service Description

*** Please note IMPORTANT CHANGE TO PAYMENT INFORMATION at the bottom of this page - please book directly via tutor *** Sometimes there's a discovery that changes the way we see the ancient world, or sheds light on something we haven't previously understood. In this course we'll be looking at some of the different brilliant discoveries that have done this, including shipwrecks, buried treasure and more, such as: - The deciphering of ancient alphabets such as Linear B, and what it can tell us about Bronze Age (Minoan and Mycenaean) Greece; the fascinating story of the Rosetta Stone, how it was discovered, how it was deciphered, and what it could then tell us about Ancient Egypt, Greece, and the Hellenistic World; the cuneiform alphabet and some astonishing things we have learnt about Ancient Mesopotamia. - The discovery of looted artifacts from ancient sites: the detective work involved in uncovering the theft and illegal trade; and what these stolen goods, previously in private collections and now on public display, can tell us about the sites they were taken from. - Shipwrecks that are like time capsules into different aspects of ancient life. - The chance discoveries that have provided clues to finding great treasures from the ancient world. - The tablets and scrolls that have uncovered remarkable insights into the ancient world, discovered at the site of temples, in ancient rubbish dumps, astonishingly preserved at Herculaneum, and more. *** IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION *** The cost for the course is £66. Cancellation Policy

All our classes require a minimum number of Thinkers to run. As soon as enough Thinkers sign up you will receive an e-mail from the Scholar running your class with a link to your virtual classroom. If we cannot gather enough thinkers to run a class we will, sadly, have to cancel and/or reschedule. If this is the case, we will e-mail 24 hours before your class is scheduled to start to let you know. To help ensure that your class does take place, please invite others to join you. We find that word of mouth is the best way to let new families know about Thinkers Meet Up. Thank you!
